Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened to unleash nuclear weapons in his latest speech. In his speech, he suspended Russia’s participation in the only nuclear arms control agreement with the United States. Putin said that he had signed a decree to “put new ground-based strategic systems” on the ground.
Several Russian military aircrafts were intercepted by NORAD jets over Alaska. A total of four Russian aircrafts including a fighter jet and a bomber were flying over the international air space over Alaska, when they were diverted back to the Russian air space.
The US has urged its citizens in Russia to leave the country immediately over security concerns. Amid escalating situation in Ukraine, the US has issued warning to its citizens in Russia to leave at once fearing that Russia could harass or even imprison the US citizens.
The US military temporarily closed down the airspace over Montana. The closure came as the US military radar identified something threatening. A fighter jet was sent to investigate the aerial object but couldn’t find anything in the air. The air space was opened for commercial airlines after the brief closure.

A recent report has revealed that Russia has lost 1,500 tanks since it invaded Ukraine last year. Putin miscalculated his invasion which he thought would take no more than one month. The Dutch monitoring group said that Russia invaded Ukraine with 3,000 tanks and has lost around 1,500 till this day.
China has threatened to respond after the US shot down the second Chinese spy balloon. The US recently shot down the second Chinese balloon that was spotted over Latin America. US officials advised not to shoot down the first balloon as it could hurt the civilian population. The US secretary of state, Antony Blinken also cancelled the two-day visit to China that was due to take place on Sunday.
An alleged spy balloon has been in the air for the last few days. The balloon has been flying over sensitive locations such as nuclear sites and military installations. Defence officials said that the suspected airborne device “surely” belongs to China and is using it for surveillance.
In an apparent effort to counter Chinese aggression, the US pushed for an agreement to build four new military facilities in the Philippines. The new military bases will give US military operations an extra edge against future Chinese aggressions against the US allies such as Japan, Taiwan and Philippines.
Boris Johnson, the former British Prime Minister, claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened him with a missile strike on phone before the invasion of Ukraine. The Kremlin has denied the allegations.
Julian Sand was reported to be missing in the mountains in northern Los Angeles. The British actor disappeared without a trace last Friday when he went on a hike in the snowy mountains. The authorities were using drones and a helicopter to investigate his whereabouts in the mountains.
