FIFA has temporarily suspended Spanish football federation head Luis Rubiales for 90 days over the kiss. Rubiales kissed one of his football players on the lips when Spain emerged victorious against England in the women’s world cup final.
Hermoso Didn’t Consent
After an uproar on social media when his clip went viral, Rubiales took to social media to apologize. He said sorry for his behavior as the head of the national team. Jenni Hermoso, the player chief kissed, defended Rubiales but said she didn’t consent to being kissed.
Rubiales Refused To Resign
Before FIFA’s decision to suspend Rubiales from all football-related activities, he refused to resign from his post. Rubiales also threatened to pursue legal proceedings against the football federation.
“When I make a mistake, it hurts me and I ask for forgiveness without softening it, but I do not deserve this hunt” he said.
