Suspect Opens Fire Near US Consulate in Saudi Arabia

A suspect was neutralized by Saudi security guards after he opened fire near the US consulate. The suspect, whose motives are still shrouded in mystery, stopped his car near the Us consulate in Jeddah and exchanged fire with the security guards, killing one security guard and injuring another.

Saudi Arabia Released US Citizen Jailed For Tweets

The US citizen jailed in 2021, for tweets against the kingdom was finally released after the Saudi court order. Saad Ibrahim Almadi was arrested when he arrived in the kingdom’s capital to visit his family. The 72-year-old Saad Ibrahim was sentenced to 16 years in prison which was later increased to 19 years.

Saudi Arabia’s Oil Giant Profit Hits Record $161.1Billion

While the western half of the world is facing an intense energy crisis, Saudi Arabia’s oil giant Aramco hit a record profit of $161.1 billion in 2022. Energy prices have been on the rise since Russia invaded Ukraine last year. The majority of the dividend payment will be directed toward the Saudi Arabian government, which owns almost 95% of the company’s shares.

Ex-Twitter Employee Spying For Saudi Arabia Jailed 3.5 Years

The ex-twitter employee has been sentenced to 3.5 years in prison by a court in California. The 45-year-old, Ahmad Abouammo, was convicted of sharing personal information of Saudi twitter users with the kingdom. Defence attorney Angela Chuang also revealed that Abouammo had received $100,000 in cash and a watch worth $40,000 from someone close to the Saudi Crown prince.

China Calls For Oil Trade In Yuan Currency At Gulf Summit

Chinese president, Xi Jinping, is on a 3-day visit to the Middle East which is the first visit since 2016. During Xi’s visit, he called upon its Arab friends that China seeks to purchase oil and gas in yuan, a move that would help Beijing’s goal of internationalizing its currency and decrease the influence of the U.S. dollar on global trade.
