Google Issues Warning To 1.8 billion Gmail Users

Google has issued a security warning to its 1.8 billion Gmail users after it noticed that the new security feature was manipulated by cybercriminals. Google introduced the new scrutiny system last month where Google will now feature a checkmark for the users that adopts Brand Indicators for Message Identification.

Now cybercriminals and scammers have started exploiting the BIMI feature which Google developed for security in the first place. Cybercriminals have started tricking the new verification feature of Gmail, which can put the data of billions of users around the globe, Forbes report wrote.

Scammers Are Tricking Gmail

Cybersecurity engineer Chris Plummer noticed the vulnerability for the very first time. He took to twitter and said scammers are spoofing Google’s new security feature called the BIMI. Plummer said that cybercriminals have found a way to convince Google’s Gmail that their fake brands are legitimate by exploiting the new security feature.
