Letter Urging Biden To Negotiate With Putin Withdrawn by Democrats

Democrats withdrew a letter to Biden, which sought to convince the president to negotiate directly with Russia in order to de-escalate the conflict.

The letter drew intense criticism from many Democrats, who, together with Ukrainian politicians, argued that it was not possible to negotiate with Putin. They further criticized the letters’ impact on the public approval of Biden’s approach to the war, reports the Washington Post. The US president is attempting to shore up domestic support for Ukraine, while Republicans want to cut aid.

The letter was published on Monday without the prior knowledge of Democrats, nor those who signed the letter in July. Some signatories had already withdrawn their support for the proposal.
