A man was left hanging from a bridge in China after the glass panels were shattered by high winds.
On Friday, the man was visiting the mountain’s 100-meter-high (330-foot) bridge in the northeast of the country when the incident occurred. However, Winds gusting up to 150 km/hr blew some parts of the glass floor.
China is believed to have about 2,300 glass bridges, as well as a variety of glass walkways and slides.
They’re meant to draw thrill-seeking visitors and take advantage of China’s rising domestic tourism market. The man is seen hanging in the middle of the bridge, which is situated in a scenic area near Longjing, in a picture widely shared on social media.
The man was rescued by firefighters who arrived quickly. According to the Xinhua news agency, he was able to return to safety with the assistance of on-site staff.
The tourist was admitted to the hospital for observation and counselling, and is now in a “healthy emotional and physical state,” according to authorities.
According to Longjing City’s Weibo page, the area has been closed. An inquiry has been conducted into the incident.
