Trump Raises Canada Tariff To 35 % Over Fentanyl Failures

Trump raises Canada trade tariff to 35%.

Another day, another tariff. President Trump has raised the tariff on Canada to a whopping 35%.

He blames Ottawa for not doing enough to stop fentanyl and other drugs from crossing the border.

But hang on—didn’t Canada just say it’s making “vital progress”? Yes, Prime Minister Mark Carney did.

Still, thanks to the USMCA free trade deal, nearly 90% of Canadian goods—like produce, energy, and industrial products—are safe.

This is according to the Royal Bank of Canada.

What’s Taking The Hit?

Items like dairy, wood, and leather might still face the hike.

Trump’s move is part of a broader tariff storm. Dozens of countries now face new import taxes ranging from 10% to 50%.

Even tiny Pacific nations like Vanuatu weren’t spared.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt brushed off economic concerns.

She declared Trump is “rebuilding the greatest economy in the history of the world.” Critics? Ignored.

Tariffs on India? 25%, plus a mysterious “penalty.” Switzerland? A cool 39%—after a last-ditch phone call with Trump fell flat.

So what’s next? Possibly higher prices, tense trade talks, and a whole lot of uncertainty.

As for Trump? “Reciprocal” tariffs are his game. Whether they work? That’s the trillion-dollar question.
