Major Storm Batters Nordic Countries Three Die In Sweden

Three killed in Sweden as major storm sweeps across Nordic countries.

Winter has shown its teeth across Scandinavia — and the cost has been deadly.

A third person has now died in Sweden as Storm Johannes tore through the Nordic region.

The storm toppled trees, cut power, and brought daily life to a halt.

So how bad did it get? Bad enough that weather officials warned of violent winds across much of northern Sweden.

In one tragic case, a man in his 50s was killed after a falling tree struck him at the Kungsberget ski resort.

Further north, a utility worker lost his life while responding to storm damage.

And in east-central Sweden, a man in his 60s later died in hospital after being hit by a tree while working in a forest.

The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute issued alerts for strong winds across large parts of northern Sweden as Storm Johannes hit.

Widespread Power Outages

The storm’s reach didn’t stop there. Tens of thousands of homes across Sweden, Norway, and Finland were plunged into darkness.

More than 40,000 Swedish households lost power, while trains, flights, ferries — you name it — were cancelled.

Norway’s Nordland region saw emergency crews respond to over 200 weather-related incidents.

In Finland, winds were so fierce they pushed planes off a runway in Kittilä — remarkably, without injuries.

As transport authorities suspend services and crews race to restore electricity, one thing is clear.

When nature turns hostile, even the most prepared societies are reminded who’s really in charge.
