Stolen $769K Earrings Retrieved—After Thief Ate Them!

Earrings worth $769,500 recovered by Florida police after alleged thief swallows them.

What’s the best way to hide nearly $770,000 worth of stolen diamond earrings?

Swallow them—at least, that’s what one alleged thief in Orlando thought.

Police say 32-year-old Jaythan Gilder pulled off an audacious scheme.

He posed as an NBA player’s assistant to gain access to Tiffany & Co.’s most expensive jewelry.

But instead of making a clean getaway, he panicked and dropped a $587,000 diamond ring.

In a last-ditch effort, he gulped down two pairs of diamond earrings before officers closed in.

The Waiting Game Began

Detectives monitored Gilder at an Orlando hospital for over two weeks because, well, what goes in must come out.

And eventually, the earrings did. Tiffany’s has since given them a thorough cleaning (for obvious reasons).

Meanwhile, Gilder now faces charges of robbery with a mask and grand theft in the first degree.

As for his regrets? Officers say they overheard him muttering, “I should have thrown them out the window.” Too late for that.
