Florida Cop Accidentally Shoots Driver With His Own Gun

What started as a routine traffic stop in Florida ended with a shocking twist.

A police officer accidentally shot the driver in the leg with his own gun.

The situation seemed straightforward when Jason Arrington, 39, was pulled over for running a red light in Jacksonville on December 13, 2024.

What Does The Bodycam Show?

Bodycam footage shows him calmly informing Officer Shaun Lowry that he was carrying a firearm, as permitted under Florida law.

Lowry thanked him for his honesty and asked him to step out of the vehicle, prioritizing safety for both parties.

What Happened?

But things spiraled quickly. As Officers Austin Weippert and Mindy Cardwell worked to secure the firearm from Arrington’s holster, disaster struck.

Struggling to remove the gun, Officer Cardwell accidentally placed her fingers inside the trigger guard, causing it to discharge.

Arrington was shot in the leg. Arrington survived but says the injury has deeply affected his ability to work.
