People Worried For Students After School Bus Catches Fire in Australia

A school bus carrying 33 students caught fire this morning in Kiama’s CBD in New South Wales Australia.

Fortunately, all students and the driver were evacuated before anything bad happened to them.

The fire broke out around 8:45 am on Collins Street, bringing two fire trucks and eight firefighters to the scene.

Students Were Shaken

The students, from Kiama Public School and Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School, were unharmed but understandably shaken.

“Some kids were excited, some put out, but we’re looking after them,” Superintendent Adam Dewberry from NSW Fire and Rescue shared.

Fire Extinguished in 15 Minutes

Crews extinguished the blaze in 15 minutes, but the aftermath required extra care.

Superintendent Dewberry said the bus was carrying 200 liters of diesel raising concerns about potential contamination of local waterways.

Local authorities dispatched special units to clean up the diesel spilled on the road and sideways.
