WSJ Reports Russia Suspected of Bombing US-Bound Cargo Planes

The Wall Street Journal reports that Russian intelligence may have planted incendiary devices to blow up planes headed for the United States and Canada.

The incendiary devices were ignited at DHL hubs in Leipzig, Germany, and Birmingham, UK, in July but the story appeared in the journal today.

Western officials suspect that the incident was a test and could be used for future sabotage operations.

Russian Intelligence Used DHL

According to the journal, the Russian intelligence services used DHL to send their explosive parcels. DHL acknowledged the incidents and confirmed cooperation with authorities at the time.

The devices originated from Lithuania, and sources suggest they were intended to assess the feasibility of smuggling incendiary devices onto planes bound for North America.

Russia Dismisses Allegations

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed the allegations, stating they were false rumors spread by the Western media.

US security officials told the paper that “at this time, there is no current active threat targeting U.S.-bound flights.”
