The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported an outbreak of E. coli linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounder sandwiches.
Neither the CBC nor McDonald’s have been able to know which ingredient is causing people sick.
The bacteria has affected 49 people across 10 U.S. states and at least one person has died so far.
10 People Hospitalized
The outbreak has led to 10 hospitalizations and one death, with the cases mainly occurring in western and Midwestern states.
The CDC suspects slivered onions used in the sandwich may be the source of the contamination, though investigations are still ongoing to confirm the exact ingredient.
McDonald’s Working With FDA
McDonald’s has removed slivered onions and quarter-pound beef patties from affected states and is working with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to trace the source of the contamination.
This outbreak follows a similar E. coli incident in 2022 involving McDonald’s chicken McNuggets in Alabama, which also led to hospitalizations.
