Three high profile terrorists including the mastermind involved in the September attacks have reached a plea deal with the US government to avoid penalty.

The New York Times reported that the 911 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Muhammad and two other Guantanamo Bay detainees agreed to plead guilty to all charges including the death of thousands of people.

27 Months of Negotiations

According to a letter obtained by the NYT, the case has been off the table for more than two decades when the mastermind KSM was captured in Pakistan.

The prosecutors said they reached the conclusion after 27 months of negotiations starting from March 2022, the three men agreed to plead guilty to all charges.

911 Families Disheartened

The news was not received well by the families of those whose loved ones were killed in the terrible tragedy.

Brett Eagleson, the president of 9/11 Justice, told CNN that he was “deeply troubled by these plea deals” as it could hinder US efforts to obtain intel about Saudi Arabia’s role in the attacks.
