A famous Instagram model from Brazil has been sentenced to eight years in prison for human trafficking and slavery, the BBC reported.
The influencer was arrested after two Brazilian women went missing in 2022, leading to an intense search operation by the FBI which led to the arrest of Kat Torres.
What Torres Did?
The story of Torres revolved around slavery and human trafficking as she lured people disguised herself as a wellness expert.
Women who talked to the BBC about their experiences said that she was attracted to Torres as she was on the cover of international magazines and roamed around with famous people like Leonardo DiCaprio.
One woman by the name of Ana told the BBC that she started as an in-house assistant but she was forced to work for just $2,000 a month.
Another woman told the British broadcast that Torres did witchcraft on her and she was forced to perform in a strip club.
More than 20 women have come forward of being scammed or exploited by the Instagram influencer.
