Republican nominee Nicki Haley has defeated the former President and leading Republican nominee for the presidency, Donald Trump, in the crucial Washington DC primary.
The victory is the first one Haley has secured in the nominee race so far after a series of setbacks at the hand of Donald Trump in previous primaries.
Haley Secured 62.9% Vote
Nicki Haley secured a gigantic 62.9% of the vote in contrast to just 32.1% of Donald Trump’s vote.
The former ambassador to the UN’s victory is seen as a largely symbolic win, giving her 43 delegates nationwide.
Haley reiterated her willingness to run for the Republican nomination after she lost her last primary vote to Trump in her hometown, South Carolina.
Queen of the Swamp
Trump’s campaign press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, easily dismissed Haley’s victory in the DC primary, calling her the ‘Queen of the Swamp’.
“While Nikki has been soundly rejected throughout the rest of America, she was just crowned Queen of the Swamp by the lobbyists and DC insiders,” Karoline Leavitt said.
