US rapper and activist Killer Mike was detained and escorted out from the Grammy Awards.
The Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed Mr. Killer’s arrest over an alleged backstage physical altercation.
The rapper was arrested shortly after he won three awards.
Killer Mike Arrested
Killer Mike, whose real name is Michael Santiago Render, was seen walking with multiple police personnel in a viral video.
“The suspect has been identified as 48-year-old Michael Render and booked for Misdemeanor Battery 243(A) PC”, the LAPD statement claimed.
It came just after some joyous moments for him at the Grammy premiere ceremony, where he won three awards in quick succession, the Guardian reported.
Killer Mike To Be Released
The LAPD later said the 48-year-old was “in the process of being released”.
Media reports didn’t specify what exactly happened backstage that led to his arrest.
Killer Mike is known for his outspoken views on social justice issues and racial discrimination faced by the black community in the US.
