The Aussie left hand batter took off his helmet and felt his jaw but bled from his mouth.
The crowd was terrified as the ball hit close to the neck, which would have been fatal if it hit him.
Khawaja passed an initial concussion test but has gone to hospital for further scans, media reports said.
