Chinese authorities have initiated an investigation after a video of a doctor punching a patient in the face during a surgery went viral.
The hospital administration immediately terminated the doctor and compensated the patient’s family when the video went viral on Chinese social media.
Hospital Parent Group Takes Notice
Aier China, the hospital’s parent group, took notice of the incident and immediately suspended the doctor and the hospital’s CEO.
The surgeon punched the 82-year-old woman patient at least three times in the face during the surgical procedure.
Authorities working on the case said the patient sustained bruises on the forehead.
The incident Took Place in 2019
According to media reports, the incident occurred in 2019, but the video recently surfaced on Chinese social media.
Ai Fen, a Chinese doctor, shared the surgery video on her Weibo account.
The hospital apologized to the patient and gave 500 yuan ($700 in damages, the patient’s son told local media.
