In a recent announcement on X, formerly Twitter, CEO Linda Yaccarino revealed a significant uptick of over 10 million users in December.
Yaccarino’s disclosure comes at a time when the platform faces an advertiser exodus, as major brands like Apple, Disney, IBM, and Lions Gate Entertainment have already left.
Announcement is Worrisome
While Yaccarino didn’t specify how many new users were paying subscribers, the surge in numbers contrasts with the ongoing advertiser withdrawal.
The platform, now under Elon Musk’s ownership after a $44 billion acquisition last year, confronts accusations of endorsing anti-Semitism.
Musk’s controversial statements and the platform’s legal battles with groups like Media Matters add to the challenges.
Major Brands Leaving X
Major brands like Apple, Disney, IBM, Coca-Cola, Jeep, Merck and Unilever have already left the platform, citing different reasons.
CNN reported that in September, over half of Twitter’s top 1,000 advertisers decided to stop spending on the platform during the initial weeks of January.
