Tennis Star Fined $8,000 For Smashing Racket During Final

Tennis star Novak Djokovic was fined $8,000 for breaking his racket during the men’s singles final at Wimbledon. Djokovic started well in the game but began to argue with the umpire and engaged with the crowd, which led to him breaking the racket.

Djokovic Lost To A New Star

Novak Djokovic, ranked second in the world, was defeated at the hands of Carlos Alcaraz, a rising star at the age of 20. Alcaraz, already a US Open champion from the previous year, secured his place in history as Wimbledon’s third youngest men’s champion. The fine will be deducted from Djokovic’s runner-up cheque of £1.175m.

Djokovic Gave-Away The Broken Racket

After the match ended, a Serbian tennis-fan asked Djokovic to give him his broken racket, which Djokovic did. A man named Milan told the BBC that he simply asked Djokovic for his broken racket to which Djokovic said “Yeah, why not?”.
