Law Implementation Could Take 6 Months
The bill was successfully passed today by the Canadian parliament but it’ll not come into effect immediately. The bill could take 6 or more than 6 months to become a law, due to the complex bureaucratic structure around legislation. The bill is aimed at regulation of tech giants and the promotion of Canadian journalism which has been taken over by the “tech titans”.
The Bill Forces Meta To Deal
Meta said it’ll “keep Canadians informed of changes” when the law is finally enforced. Both Meta and Google will be forced to strike deals with local media publishers behind stories that the tech giants directs its users to or face penalties if they don’t comply.
