A huge explosion and fire at a dairy firm killed thousands of cows in Texas. Approximately 19,000 cows were recorded to be at the venue but 18,000 had died in one of the deadliest fires at South Fork Dairy near the town of Dimmitt. The officials are speculating that the explosion might have happened because of methane, but the cause is still under investigation.
A Machine Got Overheated
Sheriff Sal Rivera while talking to a local news outlet said that the fire might have erupted because of overheating of a machine. A machine known as the “honey badger” probably got overheated and it ignited fire which spread out and exploded, Sheriff Sal Rivera said. One person was trapped inside the building and the police and other emergency services evacuated him.
A Decade Of Barn Fires
According to the US based non-profit Animal Welfare Institute, barn fires in the last 10 years have killed nearly 6.5m farm animals including 6 million chickens and thousands of cows. 3 million farm animals were reported to have died in just three years from 2018 to 2021.
