Two Russian Su-27 fighter jets struck the US MQ-9 Reaper drone over the black sea. Russian fighter jets intercepted the US drone flying in international airspace, forcing it down into the black sea. Russian jets landed on an airbase in Crimea, which Russia took over in 2014.
US Drone Destroyed
The US drone was conducting its routine operations when it was confronted by the Russian jets, according to Gen James Hecker, the US Air Force commander said. The US drone crashed in the black sea and debris has not been recovered yet. The Russian Air Force has not yet responded to the incident deemed “unsafe and unprofessional” by the US Air Force.
Joe Biden Briefed About The Situation
According to the national security council spokesman, John Kirby, US President Joe Biden had been briefed on the incident. Although there have been previous Russian intercepts, it is the first time “an intercept resulted in the ‘splashing’ of one of our drones,” he said.
