The pressure increased to an almost unbearable degree as the seconds passed with about 90,000 eager spectators inside Lusail Iconic Stadium monitoring his every move.
When his team needed it, Messi did what Messi does best. He shot the ball with his famous left foot to score on Mexico a little over an hour into the game.
Of course, the work isn’t finished. Argentina has just three points after two games and will play Poland, who defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0 earlier in the day, in the Group C championship game on Wednesday.
