A Russian court has decided to reject Brittney Griner’s appeal on her 9-year prison sentence on drug charges. Stating that the previous court’s decision was correct.
Griner, who is an American basketball player in the WNBA, was in Russia to play for the league there to earn extra cash which the WNBA was in the offseason.
She was convicted in August after police said they found a vape device that contained cannabis oil in her luggage at Moscow Airport. She was arrested in February of this year.
In her first trial, Griner admitted to having the vape in her possession but said that she was not aware of it and did not intentionally try to break the law.
Hope is still not lost yet as players around the world and especially in the US lobby President Joe Biden to help bring Griner home.
