Authorities say a vehicle crashed into people at the opening of a Pride parade in South Florida on Saturday evening, killing one man and critically wounding another.
Although several witnesses stated that the accident looked to be deliberate, Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Ali Adamson informed reporters that police were looking into all possibilities.
The incident occurred during the Stonewall Pride Parade in Wilton Manors. Wilton Manors is located to the north of Fort Lauderdale.
According to a statement from the group’s president, Justin Knight, the driver and the victims were members of the Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus family.
According to WSVN-TV, Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis claimed a driver of a pickup truck abruptly accelerated when he was told he was next in the procession, plowing into the victims. Trantalis stated in the immediate aftermath of the collision that he felt the crash was “intentional.”
The driver was brought into custody, according to police, although it was unclear if he had been charged.
