Former President Barack Obama revealed the death of his family’s beloved “first dog,” Bo, in a series of touching tweets on Saturday.
Today our family lost a true friend and loyal companion. For more than a decade, Bo was a constant, gentle presence in our lives—happy to see us on our good days, our bad days, and everyday in between. pic.twitter.com/qKMNojiu9V

Thousands of people quickly responded with condolences and photos of their own pets.
Michelle Obama, the former first lady, made her own statement on Instagram.
According to the Presidential Pet Museum, Bo was sent to the Obamas in 2009 as a present to their daughters, Sasha and Malia, by then-Sen. Ted Kennedy and his wife Victoria, not long after their father’s first inauguration. He was named after the father of the former first lady.
