Bolivia’s former interim President Jeanine Anez has been sentence to to four months in jail for her role in the exclusion of Bolivian leader Evo Morales in 2019.
After Morales resigned in October 2019, Anez took over as interim President. Morales had run 4 times for president and ruled over Bolivia for 14 years. But this election was cover with allegations of fraud and protest which caused Morales to resign.
Anez’s role after taking over was to fill in as president and to help lead the charge in holding reelection for a new president. But Anez wanted to go after Morales and his supporters by having them arrested. During this time her administration came under accusations of corruption, mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic, and imposing increasingly authoritarian rule.
Anez withdrew for the next presidential election.
The next election was won by Morales’ party represented by a guy Morales picked himself.
Anez arrested has caused concern around the world.
The US and the European Union calling on Bolivia to put aside their political differences and come to a resolutions without the use of one individual’s power.
