No more white tents on the South Lawn—President Trump is finally getting his ballroom.
The White House just announced a $200 million plan to build a grand new ballroom alongside a modernized East Wing.
And who’s footing the bill? Trump himself—along with a few unnamed donors.
For years, Trump has floated the idea. In 2016, he even offered $100 million to fund it during Obama’s term.
The offer? Politely declined. But now, he’s making it happen—construction starts this September.
What’s This New Space All About?
About 90,000 square feet with seating for 650—more than triple the capacity of the current East Room.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called it a “much-needed and exquisite addition.”
“It’ll replace those ugly tents,” Trump said Thursday, calling the ballroom “beautiful” and very Trump-esque.

“No president knew how to build a ballroom,” he added, half-joking. “I’m good at building things.”
Renderings show an elegant space full of chandeliers, ornate columns, and classic White House flair.
Preservationists seem cautiously optimistic.
“I hope any changes will honor the existing walls,” said Leslie Greene Bowman, a White House history expert.
Love him or loathe him, Trump’s finally getting his ballroom. Just don’t expect a shiny gold “TRUMP” sign out front—at least, not yet.
