The diplomatic storm of the previous Sikh assassination in Canada hadn’t yet settled when another Sikh leader came under fire, this time in California.
Satinder Pal Singh Raju, a prominent Sikh separatist leader and activist, was targeted in a shooting on a California highway on August 11, 2024.
What Happened?
Raju, who is associated with Sikhs for Justice, was traveling on Interstate 505 near Sacramento when the truck he was in was “sprayed with bullets.” Fortunately, he survived the attack.
The incident occurred around 11:30 PM in Yolo County and is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Sikhs Blame India
The attack has been described by Sikhs for Justice as an assassination attempt ordered by the Indian government.
The alleged assassination attempt follows the 2023 assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Canadian advocate for Khalistan.
The Canadian government at the time made “credible allegations” that agents of the Indian government were involved in Nijjar’s death.
