A nationwide manhunt is under way in Switzerland after a shooting at a techno rave left a 22-year-old woman dead and five others injured.
Italian national Maria Spinelli was killed at the scene in Aarau early Sunday.
Four men and another woman, aged 24 to 27, were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to severe.
The shooting happened around 02:30 at the Schachen race track, where organisers had expected as many as 3,500 people.
But how did a night of music suddenly turn deadly?
Police said they have no clear leads and do not yet know whether one person or several were responsible.
Authorities believe the suspect or suspects have already left Aarau, prompting a large-scale search across the country, with German police also assisting.
Witnesses described hearing gunshots just minutes after the music stopped.
Investigation Underway
One eyewitness initially thought the sounds were fireworks before being told to hide.
The area around the race track, swimming pool and sports fields was sealed off, while armed officers and an armoured vehicle were deployed nearby.
Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed confidence that Swiss authorities would uncover the truth.
Meanwhile, organisers said they were “shaken” and would support investigators.
Switzerland has relatively high gun ownership, but violent shootings remain uncommon.
