The US Secret Service is investigating an Iranian state television broadcast.
It discussed an alleged plot to assassinate Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump.
The three-minute programme claimed the 20-year-old was being monitored and alleged that a $10 million bounty had been offered for his killing.
But are the claims credible, or is this another escalation in the increasingly hostile rhetoric between Washington and Tehran?
Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring confirmed the agency was aware of the video.
It investigates anything that could be perceived as a threat to those under its protection.
He declined to provide further details, citing operational security.
The broadcast comes as tensions between the US and Iran remain extremely high during a conflict that began nearly six months ago.
Assassination Threats Escalate
Reuters has previously reported that Israel had warned US officials about alleged Iranian plans to assassinate President Trump.
Trump has himself said he considers himself “number one on the kill list for Iran.”
The latest broadcast therefore adds another troubling layer to an already dangerous confrontation.
Whether the alleged threat is genuine or intended as psychological pressure remains unclear.
But one thing is certain: when state television starts discussing assassination plots involving a president’s family, Washington is unlikely to ignore it.
