How close did Germany come to a major aviation disaster?
Investigators are now piecing together a troubling incident.
An explosive-laden drone was discovered at Leipzig/Halle Airport, one of the country’s most strategically important cargo hubs.
Airport staff spotted the device near Ukrainian Antonov cargo planes overnight.
Police then deployed a bomb disposal robot that safely removed the detonator.
But the drama didn’t end there. Shortly after flights resumed, a second unidentified object reportedly struck a cargo aircraft during takeoff.
The plane landed safely in Hanover with only minor damage.
The airport plays a vital role in military logistics. It serves Germany, NATO allies, and Ukraine’s Antonov Airlines, making the incident especially sensitive.
Security Alert After Drone Discovery
Saxony Interior Minister Armin Schuster described it as a “very serious security incident.”
Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, openly questioned, “Who else could it be but Russia?”
German authorities have not attributed responsibility, and Moscow has not commented.
The scare comes after months of mysterious drone activity over German military sites, airports, ports, and energy facilities.
Officials have previously warned that some of these overflights could be linked to Russian intelligence operations.
