Laser Hair Removal Device Triggers Bomb Scare At Melbourne Airport

A laser hair removal device sparked a bomb scare at Melbourne's Avalon Airport.

What looked like the start of an ordinary travel day at Australia’s Avalon Airport suddenly turned into a full-blown bomb scare.

The culprit? A laser hair removal device and a container for hot chocolate. Yes, really.

Police rushed to the airport near Melbourne just before 6am on Thursday after security staff spotted a suspicious package during screening.

Domestic flights were delayed, parts of the airport were locked down, and nervous passengers watched police cars flood the terminal.

For a few tense hours, no one quite knew what was going on.

Bomb squad officers eventually inspected the bag and discovered there was no explosive threat at all.

Instead, the “dangerous” items were a cosmetic laser device and packaging linked to hot chocolate products.

Still, authorities said they had no choice but to treat the situation seriously.

Airport Security Chaos Unfolds

Acting Inspector Nick Uebergang hinted the chaos may have ended sooner if the bag’s owner had cooperated.

“Things became a little difficult,” he admitted, explaining the man’s behaviour slowed the investigation.

Passengers stranded in car parks complained about the lack of toilets, drinks, or updates, while Jetstar cancelled some flights and delayed several others.

Airport officials defended the heavy response, calling it proof that security systems worked exactly as intended.

Because in modern air travel, even a beauty gadget and a chocolate tin can bring an airport to a standstill.
