Madagascar’s President Reportedly Leaves Country Amid Widespread Gen Z Protests

Madagascar’s president leaves country after Gen Z protests.

Madagascar’s president Andry Rajoelina has fled the country — and no one seems to know exactly where he is.

The dramatic exit comes after weeks of Gen Z–led protests.

These have toppled yet another government in a wave of youth uprisings sweeping the globe.

“It’s confirmed — he left,” opposition leader Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko told Reuters after army units began defecting to join the protesters.

According to a military source, Rajoelina boarded a French military aircraft on Sunday.

French radio RFI says this involved a deal with President Emmanuel Macron.

Macron, speaking from Egypt, didn’t deny it outright.

“Constitutional order must be preserved,” he said carefully.

He added that while France understands young people’s anger, it shouldn’t be “exploited by the military.”

What Sparked This Chaos?

What began as protests over power cuts and water shortages quickly turned into a national reckoning.

It was fueled by corruption, poor governance, and a sense of betrayal.

In a Facebook address, Rajoelina admitted he’d gone into hiding “to protect his life,” but insisted he wouldn’t let Madagascar “be destroyed.”

A defiant president on the run and a restless generation in the streets.

A nation asking: if the youth can unseat leaders this fast, who’s really in charge of tomorrow?
