Saliva Test Could Be Game Changer For Prostate Cancer Early Detection Say Scientists

Saliva test may turn tide on prostate cancer, claim scientists.

What if a simple spit test could spot deadly prostate cancer before it has a chance to strike?

UK scientists think they’re onto something big.

Instead of waiting for symptoms or relying on the often-misleading PSA blood test, this new approach digs into your DNA.

Researchers say a saliva sample can reveal 130 genetic mutations that quietly raise your odds of prostate cancer.

And by flagging men most at risk, doctors can step in earlier with MRI scans and biopsies.

What Happened?

In trials, it worked. Of 745 high-risk men tested, 187 had cancer — and 74 of those aggressive cases would’ve slipped through the cracks with standard checks.

“This could turn the tide on prostate cancer,” said Prof Ros Eeles from the Institute of Cancer Research.

She’s not alone in her optimism. Dheeresh Turnbull, 71, joined the study with no symptoms and no family history.

The test revealed a hidden cancer — and the same test later saved his brother’s life, too.

But hold on — this isn’t hitting GP clinics just yet.

Experts say it’s “promising,” but we’re not quite at the finish line.

It’ll take more proof, more time, and more diversity before it’s ready for prime time.

Still, imagine beating cancer with a spit. Not bad for science, right?
