President Trump has fired General Timothy Haugh — the head of both the NSA and US Cyber Command — along with his deputy, Wendy Noble.
No official reason was given, but the move has triggered alarm in Washington.
Democrats aren’t holding back. “Deeply disturbed,” said Rep. Jim Himes, who called Haugh an honest leader.
Mr. Jim Said Haugh was a man “who put national security first.” That, he fears, may have been the problem.
The timing raises eyebrows. Just days earlier, Trump met with far-right activist Laura Loomer, who later claimed she pushed for Haugh’s removal.
Trump denies she had anything to do with it, but also told reporters he’s cleaning house.
“We’re always going to let go of people… people that may have loyalties to someone else,” he told reporters.

The purge didn’t stop there.
At least three senior officials at the White House’s National Security Council were also shown the door this week, including intel director Brian Walsh and tech security lead David Feith.
Adding to the drama, last month the NSC accidentally added a journalist to a private Signal chat about Yemen strikes.
Gen. Haugh wasn’t involved, but he did testify about the mishap last week.
