Talk about a high-stakes meal—Florida police say a suspected thief tried to make half a million dollars in stolen earrings disappear the old-fashioned way: by swallowing them.
According to Orlando authorities, 32-year-old Jaythan Gilder walked into Tiffany & Co. last week and convinced employees he was representing a pro athlete.
That got him access to some of the store’s priciest jewelry.
But instead of making a purchase, he allegedly made a run for it—snatching two pairs of earrings worth $769,500 and a diamond ring (which he later dropped mid-getaway).
Cops caught up with him later that day, only to find him gulping down several objects they believe were the stolen earrings.
Thief Hides Earrings in Stomach
An X-ray later showed something suspicious inside his stomach, but police haven’t confirmed if they recovered the jewels.
This isn’t Gilder’s first run-in with Tiffany’s—he’s also accused of robbing a Texas store in 2022.
Oh, and did we mention he has 48 active arrest warrants in Colorado?
For now, he’s facing grand theft and robbery charges, with police calling his crime an expensive case of déjà vu.
As for the earrings? Let’s just say if they turn up, it’ll be a rather unpleasant retrieval process.
