Elon Musk might be one of the most influential (and controversial) figures on the planet, but in Canada, a quarter-million people want him out—at least on paper.
A viral petition demanding Musk’s Canadian citizenship be revoked has taken off like a SpaceX rocket.
It’s Not That Simple
Canada can’t actually strip citizenship just because someone is annoying.
Legally, revocation only happens in cases of fraud or misrepresentation.
Musk, born in South Africa, has held Canadian citizenship since his teens, thanks to his Saskatchewan-born mother.
But his critics say he’s thrown his weight behind Trump’s policies and allegedly meddled in Canadian politics.
Musk Responds
In response to the uproar, Musk took X to post, “Canada is not a real country,” before promptly deleting it.
The petition, launched on February 20, is mostly symbolic but has already gained over 250,000 signatures.
It’s backed by MP Charlie Angus, though whether it gets a government response depends on the upcoming election.
