New Mexico Courtroom Turns Chaotic After Victim Family Attacks Suspect

A New Mexico courtroom erupted into chaos on Friday when two enraged relatives of a murder victim attacked the suspect during a plea hearing.

Alexander Ortiz, 21, was in court facing first-degree murder charges for allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend, Alianna Farfan, in January 2024.

What Happened?

As Ortiz stood before the judge, Farfan’s uncle and stepfather—Carlos Lucero and Pete Ysasi—leapt over the courtroom gate and lunged at him.

The courtroom video shows Ortiz trying to escape as fists start flying.

A corrections officer, Ortiz’s father, and another unidentified man joined the fray as the courtroom spiraled into an all-out brawl.

The fight stopped when the officer drew a Taser, bringing order to the chaos.

Lucero and Ysasi were arrested and charged with battery on a peace officer and assault on a jail, but they showed no remorse.

“He killed my niece like a coward,” Lucero told deputies, adding, “It was worth every moment.”
