A Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist has walked away from The Washington Post after the paper refused to run her latest satirical piece targeting its billionaire owner, Jeff Bezos.
Ann Telnaes has been a veteran cartoonist at the paper since 2008.
She submitted an illustration depicting Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and OpenAI’s Sam Altman kneeling before a statue of Donald Trump, handing over bags of cash.
The cartoon also featured Mickey Mouse, a nod to Disney’s recent $15 million settlement with Trump.
Post Justifies Move
Editorial page editor David Shipley denied that Bezos’ involvement had anything to do with the decision, claiming it was a matter of avoiding redundancy.
“We had already published and scheduled pieces on the same topic,” he explained.
Previous Controversy
The controversy comes amid growing concerns about Bezos’ influence on the paper.
Just weeks before the election, he reportedly blocked an endorsement of Kamala Harris, a move that led to The Post losing over 250,000 subscribers.
