The suspect who drove over hundreds of people in New Orleans is a former US Army veteran and was carrying an ISIS flag.
The development links the devastating New Year attack to terrorism.
The suspect killed 15 people as he plowed into a crowd and was later neutralized in a shootout with the police.
Who is The Suspect?
Officials from the Federal Investigation Agency ( FBI) have identified the driver as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Army veteran from Texas.
He previously served in Afghanistan against the US-led war on terror. Jabbar was killed in a shootout with police following the incident.
“We do not believe that Jabbar was solely responsible. We are aggressively running down every lead, including those of his known associates,” FBI Assistant Special Agent Alethea Duncan said.
Investigators believe Jabbar may not have acted alone.
The FBI found weapons and a possible explosive device in the truck and defused two additional devices nearby.
