The White House has warned that Iran could ramp up efforts to build a nuclear bomb despite being weakened by recent developments.
The US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan also briefed President-elect Donald Trump about this.
Sullivan highlighted Tehran’s increasingly volatile position in the Middle East, citing Israeli strikes on Iranian allies and the fall of Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad.
Trump Exploring Airstrikes?
Reports also suggest that Trump and his team are exploring the possibility of airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities once he takes office on January 20.
Trump’s ambitions are also aligned with his past interactions with the Iranian government as he scrapped the nuclear agreement with Tehran.
The Wall Street Journal notes Trump has expressed concerns to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about Iran achieving nuclear capability.
Observers fear Tehran may abandon its promise not to pursue nuclear weapons, potentially triggering further instability in the Middle East.
