A horrifying subway incident in Brooklyn has led to the arrest of a man accused of setting a woman on fire aboard a stationary train.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch called it “one of the most depraved crimes” imaginable.
Despite police efforts to extinguish the fire, the woman tragically died at the scene.
What Happened?
The incident occurred early Sunday morning on an F train at Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station.
The victim, who was motionless at the time, was approached by a man who used a lighter to ignite her clothing.
Detectives are investigating whether she was asleep and say the two had no prior interaction.
Suspect Arrested
The suspect is identified as an immigrant from Guatemala who arrived in the US in 2018.
The suspect was later spotted on another train by three high school students. He was arrested at Herald Square station in Manhattan with a lighter.
