The Malaysian government has announced plans to renew the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.
The plane vanished in March 2014 with 239 people aboard without leaving a trace despite international rescue efforts.
Dubbed one of aviation’s greatest mysteries, the plane’s disappearance has left countless families in pain for nearly a decade.
Malaysia Hired US Company Under No Find, No Fee
Transport Minister Anthony Loke revealed that the cabinet has “in principle” approved a $70 million deal with US marine exploration firm Ocean Infinity.
Operating under a “no find, no fee” agreement, the company will only be paid if it locates the wreckage.
A similar mission led by Ocean Infinity in 2018 came up empty-handed after three months of searching.
Earlier efforts, including a two-year multinational search costing $150 million, were also unsuccessful.
The new attempt will target a 15,000-square-kilometer area in the southern Indian Ocean, where investigators believe the Boeing 777 likely crashed.
