A Pakistani YouTuber helped an Indian woman return home after wandering in Pakistan for 22 years.
Hamida Banu’s incredible journey home began when her grandson recognized her in a YouTube video.
The 75-year-old Indian woman described her stay in Pakistan as living “like a corpse” as she was unable to contact her family after being trafficked in 2002.
How Banu Was Trafficked in The First Place?
A recruitment agent had lured Ms. Banu with promises of a job in Dubai, but she was instead taken to Pakistan.
After she arrived in the Pakistani city of Hyderabad, Banu was detained for three months, she told Indian media.
She later married a street vendor in Karachi, where she lived until his passing during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Her story dramatically turned in 2022 when journalist Khalfan Shaikh stumbled upon an interview she gave Pakistani activist Waliullah Maroof.
The video eventually reached her family and Banu was able to return home.
