Flags across the US are flying at half-staff this Saturday to honor National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
The day marks 83 years since the surprise attack that propelled America into World War II.
On December 7, 1941, over 2,400 American service members and civilians were killed when Japan launched a devastating strike on the US Navy Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Biden Calls For Those Lost
In a heartfelt proclamation, President Joe Biden called for the nation to honor those lost, saying, “Freedom is never guaranteed”
“Their sacrifice helped deliver a world grounded in peace and security,” he added.
The President claimed that 7 December 1941 changed America forever when the country had to respond to the Japanese empire’s immoral aggression against us.
According to the National Museum of the USAF, 2,343 service members were killed, 960 missing and 1,272 injured in the surprise attack on the US Naval base that day.
