A Florida TikTok vlogger was foolishly caught putting stolen items in her car’s trunk in a video she uploaded herself.
Marlena Velez, 22, known for her mom’s vlogs and fashion posts, was arrested on Nov. 21 in connection with an October theft at a Target in Florida.
The New York Times suggests that the Police say Velez used self-checkout to scan barcodes of cheaper items instead of the pricier goods she took.
Stole Items Valued Over $500
The stolen haul reportedly included 16 items, valued at over $500.
The case cracked wide open when Cape Coral police released surveillance footage and received an anonymous tip linking Velez to the theft.
Investigators matched her outfit and actions in the security footage to one of her TikTok posts from the same day.
In the now-deleted video, Velez filmed herself picking up items like a Stanley mug and a cosmetics bag before loading her trunk with shopping bags.
The influencer mom has over 356,000 TikTok followers, the Times said.
