Kuwait, one of the richest Arab kingdoms, has announced to revoke the citizenship of 4,200 citizenships.
The government said it was targeting those accused of forging documents or breaking the law to gain the country’s citizenship.
The Gulf News website wrote that those found guilty included more than a thousand women, without citing any specific reason.
Why Kuwait is Revoking The Citizenships?
The crackdown came as a result of Kuwait’s amended nationality laws introduced last September to tackle fraud.
The Kuwaiti authorities stress that this initiative aims to safeguard the integrity of Kuwaiti citizenship, the Gulf News stressed.
One of the largest revocations came on November 14, when 1,647 individuals lost their citizenship in a single day.
Other notable dates include November 7, with 930 cancellations, and November 2, when 168 nationalities were revoked.
